An evening of fortunes remembered for years
Andrzejki, on the night of 29 to 30 November, is one of Poland’s most mysterious traditions. For generations it has fired the imagination of children and adults alike, and the best-known custom is pouring wax through a keyhole: everyone tries to read their future from the shape that sets in the water.
This wooden key was made for exactly that occasion. It is 28 cm long (XXL), so it sits well in the hand and looks great at a party. It comes in two colours: black and pine colour.

How to tell fortunes with wax
- Prepare a bowl of cold water and put it on a stable, protected table.
- Melt the wax (for example from a few candles) until liquid.
- Hold the key over the water and slowly pour the wax through the keyhole, one person at a time.
- Take out the set shape and look at it from different sides and against the light, and at its shadow on the wall.
- Read the fortune together: what does the shape resemble and what might it mean? It is a game, so the more imagination the better.

Safety
- always pour wax with an adult present, especially when children play,
- treat hot wax and flames with care and never leave candles unattended,
- protect the table and floor from spilt wax,
- use a container meant for heating wax.
